Inspired by Todd Parr’s The Mommy
Book, we began a conversation about all the ways our own mommies were
similar and the things that made them different and special. After we brainstormed at our gathering
time, children drew pictures of mommies.
Some drew their own mommies and others drew from ideas they thought
would work in the book. We spent
several mornings making drawings for this project, and then we worked together
to decide how the words would go.
We used the captions from the pictures and also talked about which
pictures could go together, and how they would show people that mommies are all
special because of their differences but also the same in some very important
ways. All of the children who
worked on the project have a drawing in the book. Check out the whole book in the Starling Room on top of the lunchbox shelf.
All mommies are special.
Some mommies like to garden
Some mommies like to do puppet shows.
All mommies love their families.
