Starlings At Play

While half the children are at the gym on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the other half stay at school and work on small group projects.  This week Taya didn't make a plan ahead of time, and invited the children to share their ideas.  On Wednesday, the children voted unanimously to have a "disco party," and we made ribbon wands, dimmed the lights, and danced to Pink Martini for nearly an hour!

These foam packaging blocks are a wonderful construction material.  This week we altered their shape with scissors, which spawned a week-long conversation about the words "construction" and "destruction."  We invited them to construct in multiple ways, but ask that they not be destructive to these materials (they are easy to rip apart and the temptation is strong).  The similarity in the words piqued their interest, and we've heard them used frequently among the children.
A masking tape road on a table inspired the children to create many on and off ramps... and it also inspired a lot of racing!

Feathers in the texture table lead to nest building and... a really joyful mess.
